Meet the Staff with Abraham Rodriguez

Interview by Allison Sima. June 25, 2013.

SIMA: Thank you for taking the time for this interview, Mr. Rodriguez. When did you join Brown & Joseph, Ltd.?  

RODRIGUEZ:  I joined Brown & Joseph, Ltd. in January of 2012.

SIMA: Can you tell us a little more about your role with the company and your department?

RODRIGUEZ:  I am currently a supervisor in training. I am responsible for our Deregulated Utilities Collection Department. My job is to hire the proper personnel to work specific client portfolios, meet our clients’ recovery expectations, handle all disputes, and work with other managers to get a better understanding of the business aspect side of things. That’s just to name a few. It’s a pretty demanding and challenging position that I look forward to facing everyday.

SIMA: Please tell us about some of the enhancements you have made to your department and your team?

RODRIGUEZ:  Well, as I said before, I’m still in training. So far I have worked to create a more cohesive and positive team atmosphere among the department.

SIMA: What attribute, or attributes, do you think are important to have when it comes to being a manager or “leader” in a company?  

RODRIGUEZ:  I believe that you have to be firm and fair when you have to be. Be respectful with your personnel so they respect you. Work hard so your team works as hard as you do. Have high expectations, so your team has those same expectations, and both can succeed. Motivating, being positive at all times and leading by example are what I would consider the main attributes for being a “leader.”

SIMA: What is the best recommendation that you can offer a client when it comes to recovering money owed?

RODRIGUEZ: I would tell a client that the best chance of recovering money owed is to let our company, Brown & Joseph, Ltd., collect for them, as we will provide them the most experienced collectors who are hard working professionals and also provide collectors with a proven track record.

SIMA: What do you think is the best part of working for Brown & Joseph, Ltd.?  

RODRIGUEZ: Aside the hours, it would have to be the opportunity to grow within a company, as well as the opportunity to work with the people on my team.

Brown & Joseph, Ltd. Appoints Jessica Schneider as New Comptroller

ROLLING MEADOWS, IL, May 10, 2013 — Brown & Joseph, Ltd., a commercial credit and collection agency, announced today that it has promoted Jessica Schneider, CCCO as the company’s new Comptroller.

Jessica Schneider has over 8 years of experience in client services and 4 years of experience as a compliance officer for Brown & Joseph, Ltd. She is a certified credit and collections compliance officer through ACA International. Jessica graduated from the University of Phoenix with a BSB in finance and is planning on continuing her education to procure a master's degree in business administration or finance.

Ms. Schneider began her career with Brown & Joseph, Ltd. 6 years ago. In recognizing that client satisfaction is our number one priority, Jessica has successfully guided production and streamlined operations by helping to match clients' needs and expectations with company goals. In addition, she has attended various ACA International Seminars along with Credit and Collection Workshops in an effort to establish a practical compliance program for Brown & Joseph, placing strong focus on compliance with outside regulatory requirements, as well as internal policies.

While still maintaining her Compliance Officer role, Jessica has recently been promoted to Comptroller at Brown & Joseph in which she will play a key role in overseeing financial analysis and reporting procedures/methodologies for the Company.

Ms. Schneider has been more than an employee during her tenure, she has been one of the people that when you need something done, we give her the project and she will make sure it gets done. Brown & Joseph, Ltd. Completes Examination in Conformity with Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements (SSAE) No. 16, Reporting on Controls at a Service Organization

ROLLING MEADOWS, IL, April 18, 2013 — Brown & Joseph, Ltd., a commercial credit and collection agency, announced today that it has recently completed its examination in conformity with Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements (SSAE) No. 16, Reporting on Controls at a Service Organization as of March 15, 2013 that was performed by an independent accounting and auditing firm.

Completion of the SSAE 16 Type I examination indicates that selected Brown & Joseph, Ltd. processes, procedures and controls have been formally evaluated and tested as of a given date by an independent accounting and auditing firm.

SSAE 16 is designated by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as an acceptable method for a user entity’s management to obtain assurance about service organization internal controls without conducting additional assessments. In addition, the requirements of Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 make SSAE 16 reports even more important to the process of reporting on effective internal controls by public companies.

A SSAE 16 examination is widely recognized, because it represents that a service organization has been through an evaluation of their control activities as they relate to an audit of the financial statements of its customers.  A Type I report includes the service organization's system description and the design of the service organization's controls.
